Academic Integrity in the Times of AI – Upholding Ethics While Pushing Boundaries
About the event
As artificial intelligence becomes increasingly integrated into academic life, students face both unprecedented opportunities and complex ethical dilemmas. Generative AI tools can support creativity, critical thinking, and research productivity, but they also challenge traditional notions of authorship, originality, and intellectual honesty. This workshop, to be organized as part of the Week of Integrity 2025, aims to promote a culture of ethical engagement with AI in higher education.
Format and Methodology
The workshop will be interactive, combining short presentations, demonstrations, and guided discussions by two SCiDEV experts. Students will be introduced to several AI tools (e.g., ChatGPT, Copilot, Gemini, Claude) and asked to critically assess their outputs. Through group exercises, participants will identify potential risks—such as bias, misinformation, or over-reliance—and explore best practices for maintaining integrity in AI-assisted research and writing.
